Structural steel posts are much thicker at the corners than roll-formed posts thus they do not dent or bend as easily.

The drawing above shows the amount of steel at the corners of structural rack versus the amount of steel in roll-formed posts.

Structural rack contains more steel at the primary impact points, making it less likely to be dented or bent when hit.

Structural sections do not depend on the maintenance of the exact shape to retain load-carrying capacity as do cold roll-formed sections. Normally, even if a structural rack is dented or bent it will not fail.

This means that you can repair structural steel uprights in place with ordinary cutting and welding tools.

This also means that you need less labor and lose less work time when you need to repair a beam.

You can add special reinforcements to structural rack upright frames to increase resistance to collisions and to increase holding capacity.
